Our taxi driver was about 60 - 70 years old and drinking red bull like there was no tomorrow. Barry pointed out to the guy that there was no petrol in the car. He said that this car didn't use petrol and it used gas. Well , we pulled into the filling station and he opened up the boot and refilled with LP gas, very interesting...

After leaving the magic garden we decide we needed to head back to our bungalow before it was dark. The roads in the middle of the island are not ideal for scooters. We were lucky to get out of this one alive. The factors against us number 1 It was the rainy season and if it started raining we were gonna be stuck in the mountains for the night. Number 2 we hadn't seen a single person for a few hours. Number 3 we were lost. Number 4 we were running out of petrol. Number 5 we were driving scooters on the worst roads known to man. These roads weren't even on the map of the island. Well we made it out alive and just in time as we approached the main road it was getting dark. We were dam lucky...

We were driving around the island and I suggested we go get some cold drinks from a shop. We stopped at a small local shop and as it is customary to take off your shoes before entering, I wasn't going to disrespect this. I took off my shoes and went inside and got a bottle of water and a can of coke. When I walked out of the shop there was a little yellow surprise in my shoe and a 2 year old boy walking around naked. I thought he may have puked in my shoe, but when I saw some poop coming out his bum I realised he had left a special something in my shoe..
I used my bottle of water to clean my shoe. The shopkeeper took his little boy to get cleaned up. I got on my bike and headed for the sea.

Most Thai beers are quite strong. Singha is one of the most famous of all and has a whopping 6.4 % alcohol content. After we had completed our morning of snorkelling and doing a bit of sight seeing we grabbed a Kayak. This was loads of fun as Barry and I had a Kayak and tried our best to either splash Jeremy and Richard or just kick their asses in a race. Of course the S.A boys won. There were 2 British guys with no co-ords, they had no idea how to steer a Kayak and were continually crashing into rocks. They crashed into us a couple of times. The 2 Israeli guys were probably the most unfit people around. They arrived 10 minutes after everyone else.

Bazz was looking forward to his diving trip to Koh Tao.. As I was not PADI certified I would have to do a course. The group (Richard ,Jeremy and myself) decided snorkelling and kayaking was a better option and a lot cheaper than the diving. Bazz is still pissed he went all the way to Thailand and didn't dive.. Sorry dude. The snorkelling was very cool but a little crowded.

There are only a few proper petrol stations in Samui. These little family business's are everywhere. Petrol at the normal station costs 28 baht a litre, at this little station it costs 40 baht a litre. this young lass pumps the petrol by turning a handle a few times it fills up the container at the top. She then lets gravity do the rest as she attaches a pipe to the container..

The tourists pay to watch these guys and the locals get in for free and gamble. It seems like all the fights we saw were two families competing.

There are loads of people who wanna get back to Koh Samui. We managed to squeeze onto a boat. A few minutes into the journey and I see some guy on the side of the boat in his birthday suit, next thing he jumped into the sea. I think his buddies dared him to jump off the boat naked. I think this boy may have regretted this decision. I hope his buddies went to go and rescue the poor fellow. Cause he obviously would have no money, no ticket back to Koh Samui and no clothes....

Thats the boat we took to Koh Pha-Ngan to the Full moon party. There were guys from the marine safety checking the boat had all the safety equipment and wasn't overloaded. About 5 minutes from Koh Pha-Ngan the boat's engine broke. Luckily this boat has 2 engines. We cruised slowly to Hat Rin, the beach where the party is. You can hear the music pumping when you are about a kilometre from the beach.

On our way back from having a few beers in townwe headed to our Bungalow. We noticed the security guard was tossing off his dog. I thought this couldn't be possible but yes he was jacking the dog off. He smiled and waved at us with his one hand and continued assisting his friend with the other. We laughed about it and headed off to face another day in this wonderfully interesting country. Sexuality in this country obviously has no boundaries....

Chaweng beach has soft white sand and thousands of loungers. Every 5 metres there are ladies giving massages. If you go to the beach before 10am it's pretty quiet as everyone went partying the nigt before..

We spent 3 nights in number 10. It's pretty good but there was no swimming pool and they didn't want to negotiate rates. 1700 Baht a night.

After 3 hours in the ferry we arrived on the west side of the island. This is the furthest possible place from the beach we were staying at, Chaweng beach. We got ourselves a minibus taxi and 30 minutes later arrived at Al's Hut, the place we had booked accomadation at. The time was 14:30 which meant it had taken us 16 1/2 hours to get to Koh Samui. The distance is about 600km and is only a 1 hour flight. We were definitely flying back to Bangkok..

Surat Thani

This castle is located just opposite where the bus dropped us off. It looks like something that should be in Disneyland. I tried to get more information about it from the guy at the restaurant but we were on different wave lengths. We had to wait in Surat Thani for 2 hours to take a bus to the pier. Eventually we got on the bus and 30 minutes later we were at a pier. We exchanged our tickets for orange stickers and asked the guy if this was the ferry to Koh Samui. He said it was the ferry to Koh Pha Ngan and that we should wait for the ferry to Koh Samui. This boat was getting jam packed with people hanging on the side. Eventually everyone had boarded the ferry he called us and said we must get on this was the for Koh Samui. There wasn't space for anyone never mind luggage. We declined, this boat was surely not safe with all those people on... We were told there was a bus leaving for another pier, so we jumped on this bus. I thought it would be another 10 minutes in this bus, boy was I wrong, this bus wasn't air conditioned and really packed. We drove for another 2 hours and eventually landed up at a place called Don Sak. There was a huge ferrry waiting and I was told it was only 1 more hour to go. That was a bit of an untruth as this ferry looked like something from Huckleberry Finn. It was one of those steam powered boats with the big wheel at the back. After sitting in the bus for another 20 minutes the driver let us out of the cage. We moved towards the pier and were asked for our tickets. We had given our tickets to the lady at the other pier and only had stickers. After about another 10 minutes of debate the guy gave us tickets and let us on the ferry. The ferry sat for about an hour before leaving and 3 hours later we arrived in Koh Samui

Waiting for that bus that will take us to Koh Samui. The bus was supposed to leave at 7pm, it left at about 8:30pm. We went to the train station to get some supplies, 3 bags of snacks. As we got on the bus I started pounding a few lagers and eating sweets. The sweets turned me into a hyperactive kid. I just coundn't sit still probably driving Barry mad. There was a british guy behind us who was trying to impress an american girl with his outrageous story that lasted about 2 hours. Basically the story was about how smashed he got and was arrested. We were surrounded by teenagers on the bus. After about 12 hours we got to Surat Thani and had breakfast and chatted with the owner of the restaurant. I hadn't slept a wink and was looking forward to a quick ferry trip from Surat Thani to Koh Samui. Noo that could never happen.....

The Dreaded Suit Scam

How did I manage to leave Thailand with a suit I didn't want. I think a lot of tourists are asking that same question. While we were walking around town I noticed barry was talking to some guy on the side of the street. He seemed really friendly and a few minutes later we were riding in a Tuc Tuc to a Tailor to go check out suits. I was just having a look around and decided I saw a few nice things I was gonna buy. This shop was having a special today only (What a crock of shit) I picked out a few things and the next thing I know I was drinking Beer Chang and getting measured for a suit. I drank my beer and next thing I had handed my credit card over for payment. What the hell was I thinking, I didn't need a tailored suit. The only time I wear suits is for weddings and funerals. I have only been to a few weddings and a few funerals and i had 2 suits already. Oh well it could have been worse, I could have done a Barry and got 2 suits. Later I discovered how many tailors there are in Thailand. These buggers are on every street corner. Beware as the suits you get are inferior quality and material is really thin. I thought the suit was really cheap, I checked my credit card statement and It wasn't that cheap..... I guess this rag suit is mine to keep.

The Long walk to the Sky Train

After the Grand Palace we decided to go and check out Wat Benchamabophit (Marble temple). We had a ticket to go and check it out. We battled to find a Tuc Tuc who would take us. Eventually after I had bought a pair of shorts cause it was as hot as hell and you have to wear long pants in the temples. Well I got a pair of shorts and eventually got a Tuc Tuc who would take us to the place we wanted to go. He had to ask permission from some other Tuc Tuc guy to take us to this spot. After about 20 minutes we arrived at the temple..... Ok so he took us to the zoo instead. After all the frustration we had had with these Tuc Tuc guys we decided walking was a better option. We looked on the map and it looked like a short distance to the nearest Sky train station. Boy were we wrong again. Barry and i walked for about 1 1/2 hours to the sky train stop. We got on the sky train and headed for Siam Centre to do some shopping. We noticed on the sky train that the seat you normally offer to little old ladies is for monks in this country. After arriving in Siam centre we done some shopping and took a taxi back to Khao San Road...

After our boat ride and being forced to pay an extra 20 baht landing fee we proceeded to our next port of call, the Grand Palace. We arrived at the ticket window and I paid the entrance fee 200 baht. Barry reached into his wallet and pulled out a bunch of money and was in a bit of a flatty. He gave the man 20 baht and the man said to Barry be needed 2 red notes. Barry has a bit of a problem with that as he is colourblind, he gave the man 2 blue notes and the man cracked up and shouted at Barry "You SHTOOOPAAD". The man looked at me and said I needed to look after Barry cause he too SHTOOOPAAD. We eventually sorted out the man with the correct money and done the tour of the palace in the blistering heat.

There are thousands of small houses on stilts lining the canals. All of these houses are on rotting wooden stilts and could collapse any minute. I would hate to fall into this canal as all the people chuck their garbage into the canals.

After the hectic day we had the day before a longboat trip sounded like a plan. We took a 1 hour trip in and out of the canals of bangkok. We were promised to see the floating market, which was one lady in her boat selling cold drinks and beer.

We rounded off our day by heading off to chinatown for a good dinner. I had a spicy crab salad that burn't the socks off me. The burn would not go away and was suffering for about 20 minutes. I have no idea what they put in that salad but I ain't gonna try it again.

Our Next stop was the Tourism Authority of Thailand. Ok that's what the guy at the temple said. I noticed as we drove passed the T.A.T that it was closed. We were going to a Travel agent approved by the T.A.T. We went to book our bus tickets to Koh Samui and a nights accomodation. We bought a package and I think were ripped off. We bought 3 Nights accomodation at Al's Hut. The bus was a night bus which ruined our plan of seeing a bit of the countryside. That has absolutely nothing to do with this picture. This is a picture of the traffic lights in Bangkok. They have a countdown system. 15 more seconds of being green on this picture. This system is very cool..

This massive standing Buddha is also known as Big standing Buddha. It is 32m high and was the first stop on our sight seeing trip. Our guy from the first temple said if you rub his foot you will have good luck. We spent a few minutes looking around and checked out the temple.

Ok Here is our Tuc Tuc driver taking us on a sight-seeing trip. 1st Stop will be the massive standing Buddha. It's fun to try out the Tuc Tuc. There are however some problems, 1st proble you can't see much as you may see from this picture. Problem 2 if this guy has an accident it's tickets. Problem number 3 is these guys are like the mafia nad will take you to their brothers place or anywhere where they make a buck or 2.

Our first stop at a temple

Our first full day in Bangkok and Baz and i decided to do some sight seeing. We thought walking would be a nice way to see a bit of the city. We were equipped with a map so we thought it should be easy to find our way around. Wrongg!!!
1st problem, when you walk on the streets you can't see any landmarks or pretty much anything cause there are no open spaces and the sidewalks have people selling stuff. 2nd Problem is the map, it doesn't quite show how big Bangkok is and does not show all the streets. One block on the map is about 5km. 3rd problem is the street names. All streets names are not what they appear to be. If it says Pratchawat rd on the map does not mean that is what is on the road sign. There may not even be a street sign. We set off to try and find the grand palace. We walked around for about an hour just getting lost. Eventually we stumbled upon this Temple in the picture. I do not know the name of it. Wat somethinh or other.
A friendly Thai guy chatted a bit with us and showed us around the temple. He planned a day of sightseeing for us. It was sunday and he told us the grand palace was closed. I am not sure it was.
The dude suggested 3 temples and the T.A.T (Thailand Authority of Tourism)
He summoned a Tuc Tuc driver, negotiated a price (200 Baht) and off we went.

There are so many taxi's in Bangkok and most are farely new. I don't know why they are called metered taxis as the driver turns off the meter and you have to negotiate a price for your destination. The taxis are quite cheep and air conditioned. The only problem is most of the drivers have a very poor level of english. You may land up at a place you were not expecting to go to. We had a wild ride in one of these taxis. We went from Siam Centre to Khao San road. The taxi driver looked about 16. He was driving like an absolute maniac and I was praying we would make it back alive. He drove on the wrong side of the road speeding along at twice or 3 times the speed limit. He didn't even stop at all the traffic lights. Why did we pick this fellow?
Well we made it back without having an accident. I think Buddha was keeping an eye on us. We did go and rub his foot for good luck earlier in the day.

All the bars in Khao San road are jam packed and have lots of bright lights advertising. We stopped at one or two for a Singha Beer which contains 6.4 % alcohol and is packed with formaldohide which is also known as embalming fluid. This gives you that terrible hangover and can cause memory loss. Why do we drink it? cause it's cheeper than German beer.

We went for a walk down Khao San Road on our first night in Bangkok to see what it's all about. The road is absolutely packed with tourists and locals, Ladyboys and freaks. every 5m people are making food, selling food. The road is a mixture of many things people performing, people drinking and dancing and selling stuff. There was even an elephant walking down the road. For 20 Baht you can feed the elephant peanuts. Wow this road is really busy, there are restaurants and pubs and clubs as well. We even came across a guy selling Scorpions, Locusts and worms. I was not prepared to risk eating anything too weird. We stuck to Beer and a Few Thai dishes including that little gem Satay Chicken in Peanut sauce Yum Yum...

Dubai, City In a Desert

It's flat and sandy with loads of great infastructure and great shopping, but hot and dusty. Nothing that can impress me....

Ok I had heard a few good and bad things about Emirates. Personally I think this is one of the best airlines and in terms of value for money it's number 1 for me. The only annoying thing is having to listen to all the announcements in Arabic, I am not a big fan of the language. But anyhow a small price to pay for comfort. The seats have lots of legroom, I actually managed to catch some zzz's . They have an excellnent entertainment system called ICE. You have a choice of over 500 programs, including movies, TV programs and documentaries. One of the coolest things is you can play games with one of your mates or just challenge a passenger to a game of chess. The other cool thing about Emirates is the food, every 3 hours they feed you with a descent meal. Usually I don't eat much on a plane cause the food is so crap, but this time was quite impressed. The service levels are not brilliant but exceptable. We flew in a Boeing 777-300 for 3 out of 4 legs of the Emirates part of the journey.

Dubai Airport what a disappointment

I Heard that Dubai International Airport offered the best shopping in the world. Some of the stuff was quite cheap, I thought the variety was not very good and the toilets were horrible with long queues even at the mens.
I was at the airport for about 6 hours. I bought a camera that had pictures on the memory stick and no lense cover. The salesman was from India and had absolutely no clue about camera's. All in all Dubai Airport was very disappointing for me. I had been waiting for a few hours and Barry's flight was due to land. I went to check enquiries and find out if the flight from Johannesburg had landed, I took a skid on the floor. Somebody had puked on the floor and I had stood in it. Left Abuja at 5am on 1 September to begin my long Journey to Bangkok, Thailand.
My Plane left Lagos at 4:30 pm on route to Dubai. Arrived in Dubai at 3am in the morning. Then met up with Barry who flew in from Johannesburg. Barry had a few number coincidences, I booked my seat for the Dubai to Bangkok leg of the journey and was allocated seat number 42a. Barry had sat on seat number 42a on the Johannesburg to Dubai leg. He got the seat next to me from Dubai so 42b. Bizarre..
Done a bit of shopping in Dubai and drank siome ridiculously expensive Beers in Dubai.
